ok, so we'v been in vancouver for the last 4 days, it was a total culture shock arriving in the big city and it was dark!! we hadnt seen darkness in weeks, wierd. also we headed straight out clubing and i bumped into someone i knew from edinburgh who was on there hols, hadnt seen them in about 6 yrs so was very freeky!
anyway, the trip back from dawson wasnt quite so smooth, we were due to leave dawson on sunday at 9am, geting to whitehorse in plenty time for our flight to vancouver, so we'r all set sat evening then we find out from the hostel owner that the bus isnt leaving till 2.30pm!! eh hello, massive panic follows and we rush around town trying to find someone who is driving to whitehorse the next day but everyone seems to be heading there for the canada day celebrations, grr. so we were almost going to be geting up a 6am to hitch hike, but ended up booking a flight at an extra cost of $250, needless to say we were raging!!! phone calls and emails to the stupid bus company have been issued aaarrggh. so hoping for a refund, il keep u posted
1 good thing did happen, well not to celia and jeff. celia (the girl i met in seattle who i bumped into in whitehorse) and a guy called jef (who was staying at the hostel) were heading up to dawson the day after we were and offered us a ride, we were kicking ourselves as we'd already booked the bus and could get no refund. so headed of on the bus expecting to see them the next day but by the end of our week they still hadnt shown, we thought we'd missed them or they'd changed there minds, well the morning we were leaving we bumped into celia and asked what had happened, turns out they'd made it almost all the way to dawson then jeff crashed the car, aparently it even flipped right over and celia got taken all the way back to whitehorse and put in hospital, we were pretty glad we'd booked the bus, scary!!!
ok here's some pics from dawson city
you know how i love a good cemetry pic
some pics from our city tour
our guide was very good, i even got to escort her up the street
the old post office
the old bank, we actualy tried to get money from here when we arrived, oops didnt realise it was just a historical feature. atm was across the street in the new bank
this is paradise alley where all the working girls used to have there cabins
this metal thing is hobo hotel, i wouldnt like to sleep in it at 50 degree's below
it was nice hot sunbathing weather, we'v both now got quite the tan
we thought these bugs were so funny, they were huge and would fly about then randomly bump into things, fall to the floor and either play dead or scurry of, we could sit and watch them for ages, esp when we seen some who kept hitting one man in particular, so funny. we called them mostachios because of there long whiskers
this building is falling apart because its privately owned and the owner wont restore it or sell it
the general store where we got our shopping
all the buildings were straight out of a western movie
the pavements, they were all like this
and the roads were all dirt roads, great for the horses id imagine
these antlers were huge, they belonged to 2 male moose that had had a fight, the bigger moose won but being unable to unlock his antlers died from starvation, poor thing
dawson back in the day
debbie hanging out by the water waiting on the first people to arrive in the canoe race from whitehorse
all day long people in there RV's line up to get the ferry over the yukon to head to alaska, this one basicaly had it all, RV, boat, jeep and bikes, crazy
one night we went on a walk to the steamboat graveyard, it was pretty amazing, there was around 4 or 5 huge paddle wheeler boats that got abandoned there becasue they got strandid because of low bridges being built over the yukon river or something, anyway, it was pretty cool
this was hanging overhead, held up by a wire!!
we were quite amazed by all these boats pilled up together in the middle of nowhere
we walked all the way around them and climbed up to check all the boats out. this is the stick we climbed to get up
the view, you couldnt tell where one boat ended and the other started, they were all squished into each other
dawson city looked realy nice in the sun as we walked back to the cabin
well thats was pretty much dawson city, i have a couple more pics still on my camera from the morning we left but il put them up next time.
we'r now in nanaimo on vancouver island, then we'r heading to victoria for about 10 days, we really wanted to spend less time there and more in tofino but seems tofino is extremely popular in july/aug so we'v managed to scrape a 5 day stay there them at of the 20th no plans till vancouver so we'l see what happens. its geting realy hot now, summer is well and truly kicked in at 32 degrees today! cold ciders are a must

Hey girls
Sorry for the lack of posting lately - loving the pics! That steamboat graveyard is AMAZING! I want to go there now!
So, if you're in Nanaimo, I dare you both to eat three Nanaimo bars on the trot and not be sick... That's your challenge for the month!
Glad the sun is shining. I wish I could say the same here :(
