kodiak home of the worlds largest land carnivore

so we got to kodiak and it was very foggy and rainy, boo, i mean c'mon we'r on our summer holidays!! so it all seemed very miserable and full of hard working fisher folk! we got a taxi to bev's bed and make your own darn breakfast, which i have to say was an amazing place, we paid $70 a night and got an entire house all to ourselves with a kitchen and livingroom with cable tv, and a fully stocked breakfast fridge, yum

me in the kitchen

with it being sooo rainy we had to do things that involved being inside, like visiting museums, this kodiak bear is in the native museum, it was killed in 1982 and features in the film "the grizzly man" it was HUGE!!!

the best thing we did to get out of the rain was to go to the kodiak island brewing co and try all there beers (they let u do it for free!!) debbies fake id is still working a treat :) we then bought 2 growlers (big bottles of beer) of 2 diferent beers and headed home to get drunk, eh i mean have a quiet drink, they were good, so good infact that we went back the next day and got the growlers filled up of another 2 types of beer

this is the beach where we seen the bear paw sticking out of a cave, debbie ran away in fear while i got the binoliars our and tried to detemine if it was indeed a bear paw, then got scared and ran away
SANY0049.JPG

some signs from around kodiak, basicaly telling u to not encourage bears and head for high ground when a sunami hits, oh and wear your seatbelt, there very adamant on that in alaska
SANY0045.JPG

SANY0055.JPG

the fog and rain finaly cleared and we seen the surrounding mountains and seen that kodiak was actualy realy pretty, so we hired a car and headed out of town in persuit of some bears

the car, i felt a little inadequate with this tiny car next to everyone elses big pick up trucks but i was so glad it was small and drivable
